Rose tinted ears
The past was much better wasn't it: fewer cars, cheaper sweets, better cartoons, narrower waists, longer sleeps... Music was better then too, it seemed to mean more: mental acid house, crrrazy Madchester, soppy shoegazing, twiddly ambient... Nestled in amongst all this stuff that's aged rather badly were some real gems. And here are some lyrics from one of these little gems that 'came in my ears' this morning: "Catch me in another dream, I'm pulled away, Hold me, gently take me through another day.
However hard I try, I crawl when I should fly. I wander through my days, pulled a million ways."
I love that tune - it reminds me of being a pretentious loner at uni, wearing scruffy clothes, reading clever books and dancing to music like this whilst swinging my arms lazily by my side. Modern music can't compete - it doesn't have those memories attached to it.
