The Office - An American Workplace

I happened to watch an episode of The Office - An American Workplace last night. I wasn't planning to - I've still not got used to having lots of extra channels, so just watch the 4 normal ones usually. And then I realise and catch the last 30 seconds of 'Scrubs' or something else much better than 'How Clean is your Property Ladder' that I was absent-mindedly watching.
Anyway.... 'The Office' was widely considered to be brilliant, and I'd agree. But the American version wouldn't be any good, would it? They don't do irony and sarcasm and subtlety, surely? Well, it's really hard to be objective and to start with I thought it was a poor imitation. But I very quickly forgot it was a copy and started to enjoy it. And then I got over being all defensive and enjoyed it for what it is: essentially 'The Office' made in America, with Americans in and American jokes and situations. Which was always going to be good: the Americans make great comedy ('Happy Days', 'Saved by the Bell' etc) and 'The Office' is fundamentally funny.
If you've got the technology, put aside your snooty attitude and watch it.
