Shit. I came home, dug out my installation CDs and rang Apple. After listening to 'Amazing Grace' and assorted tunes for 20 minutes, I got through. The lady guided me through some things to try, but to no avail: the kernal panic happened every time I started iBy up. So I had 2 more things to try before having to book it in for repair: 'archive and install' and 'erase and install'. The first one didn't work. So I had to do the second one. Which has meant that I've lost everything: all my photos (3 years), music (7.5GB), graphics, writing, websites, favourites, software.... I made a back up of what I could beforehand, so I'll be able to get it back (hopefully), but it's a bloody bugger. Some of the software relies on license codes I've 'lost', so they'll not be coming back. And I forgot about my favourites and my contacts, so they're gone. And all my web settings, gone. I tell you something, if I didn't hate PCs so much, I'd be seriously considering a reverse switch: that's 2 Macs, both less than 12 months old, that have had serious faults in the last 2 weeks. I've learnt my lesson though. From now on, I'm going to run a lean iBy, one that can be reinstalled without too much heartache, and one that has lots of back ups. Shit.
