Project 'fix the house' is well under way. Our builders started work on the roof last Tuesday and have so far re-rendered both chimney stacks, replaced all the lead around both chimney stacks and the dormer window valleys, replaced all the soffits, replaced/treated the eaves, replaced some tiles and... that's it. There's still a long way to go, especially at the speed they work, but it's all looking so much better than it was. We put a fence up round our garden at the weekend. We'd got a couple of quotes to get it done, ranging from £400 to £1,000, but we decided to do it ourseleves. I bought the posts (30) and the wire fencing (100m) and hired a basher-in thing and got started. By Saturday night all the posts were in. On Sunday we decided we'd read the boundary map wrong, so they all came out and I put them all in again, this time in the right place. Then we attached the wire and by Sunday night we had a good solid fence round our garden. We tested it out by letting the dogs out and they ran round and round for ages. It was good.
