We spent the day with 'the company' somewhere on some sort of Maltese building site 20 minutes from the hotel. Man, the drivers are mental! I feared for my life on the way: swerving; tail-gating; undertaking; no indicating. Everyone drives like that and they seem to get along fine, but it's scary!
'The company' are based in a horrible white-tiled office with really shitty desks and PCs and white blinds on the metal-framed windows. We spent the morning in the training room - which was freezing cold and dark - having an overview of our software systems: I didn't understand a word. This was mainly because it's very, very complicated, but also because our hosts are Maltese and speak a sort of Maltenglish which is impossible to follow: it sounds sort of English most of the time but the odd word get's thrown in that sounds right but simply doesn't make any sense.
We had 1 1/2 hours for lunch so went out for a walk: it's a scrap heap of building sites, dirt tracks and rocky paths. We found a horse racetrack to walk round and it was sunny and warm so it was ok.
The afternoon was good as we got involved and tried stuff out.
This evening we walked down to a little supermarket in the bay to get essential supplies (Pringles and nougat) and then went for a Chinese (crispy duck, yum).
And now I'm sitting on the balcony with wireless Internet. It's lush! (But it's also very cold).
