A quick visit to Amazon and I'm £40 poorer. But I did get some things in return:
'The Royal Tenenbaums'
A brilliant film, made by the same chap who did 'Rushmore' which is one of my all-time favourites.
'Vespertine' by Bjork
I was tempted to buy her latest album but thought I'd better familiarise myself with what she's been up to recently. Not really sure about it yet (only listened to it once).
'From A Basement On The Hill' by Elliott Smith
I've heard his name associated with Jeff Buckley so I bought his CD - it's good, nowhere near Jeff, more like Badly Drawn Boy.
'Bizarro' by The Wedding Present
A classic that I only had on tape (buried away in a warehouse somewhere)
'A Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells: Being an Illustrated Account of a Study and Exploration of the Mountains in the English Lake District: Central' by Alfred Wainwright
This chap wandered around the Lakes sketching and walking, creating the definitive guide to the whole place. There are 8 books in total (I think) so I'm trying one out, starting with the central fells. It's very good.
After flicking through my Wainwright, I picked a hill to climb up - Helm Crag. I drove to Grasmere, parked, walked through the village, up the hill and was at the top in an hour. There are some interesting rocks there - at one end are the Lion and the Lamb and at the other is the Howitzer which is technically the hill's summit. I gave it a go but chickened out - the rock was very slippery, it was very windy and I was on my own. But one day I'll get to the top of Helm Crag, and when I do, I shall be pleased.
