Sunshine and midges, chinks of light through the leaves, beads of sweat on your brow, sandals and sunhats. We got our first taste of summer this weekend and it tasted good!!
We spent it wisely, walking under waterfalls and buying carpet. The waterfall was lush but the carpet buying was incredibly depressing. Here's how it happened:
We decided that enough was enough, let's just go and buy the carpet (we've been meaning to for ages) even though it was a gloriously sunny Sunday. We went to Allied Carpets, found something we liked and asked the man how much it would cost.
"£400 fitted."
"Ok - let's do that then please."
"Ok - take a seat."
There then followed about 10 minutes worth of him prodding his computer keyboard and staring out of the doorway.
"Ok, that'll be about £450 fitted. An estimator will need to come round and measure first, when would be convenient?"
Mmm, it's already gone up £50 - oh well. "Monday afternoon and Friday afternoon."
"I can do Tuesday."
"No, we're not in Tuesday."
"How about Tuesday?"
"No, we're not in Tuesday."
This went on and on and included a bit of staring out of the doorway. I finally gave in and accepteed Tuesday: we're not in but I'll just have to leave work early. The whole process took about 20 minutes and left us feeling really, really depressed. I complain about my job sometimes but boy, sitting in an Allied Carpets on a hot Sunday must be worse. It must be.
After that we went for a lovely walk in the woods and that cheered us up.
