babyatom's BIG BLOG was somewhere for me to air some thoughts and tell you about what I'd been up to between March 2003 and January 2006. I'm now here

I cycled home last night, 14 miles from my office to my front door.
It's been a while since I've ridden my bike, so long in fact that my front inner tube had rotted away, resulting in my disastrous first attempt to cycle home on Monday. Anyway, my bike was fine yesterday and I managed to make it back no problem. Well, I say no problem, it was actually bloody hard going and the saddle felt harder than I remembered and the riding position caused my neck to seize up. But apart from that, it was ok.
It was a lovely evening and riding along the Taff Trail is pleasant enough - once you get past the housing estates littered with chavs and dodge the broken bottles and dog shit. After a few miles the track goes past fields with lambs in, which is nice, then through some woods, over the A470, through a village and then down to join the river, which it then follows all the way into Cardiff. It's one of those rides where you always think you're closer to the end than you actually are: "oh yeah, I forgot there was this bit".
As I approached the 12 mile mark, I started to plan what I was going to do when I got home: bowl of cereal, bath, Neighbours. But this wasn't to be: I'd forgotten my keys. Oh crap!!
So when I arrived at the finish line, there was no triumphant welcome or rewarding soak in the bath: I sat on the windowsill waiting for Corrie to come home and let me in. I waited and waited then my next-door neighbour came home so I asked if I could go through his house and jump over the wall to get in my house via the back - there's a secret way in ;-).
And that is the end of my story.
