We had a proper outdoor weekend...and it was good.

On Saturday, we went up to the Black Mountains for a big walk. We started at Llanthony Priory and walked north, up the valley (towards Lord Hereford's Knob). We then climbed up onto the moorlands and walked south, through the heather, towards the top of the ridge. It was really cold and blustery but bright and the scenery was very dramatic. The path then descended through a little valley, past some lovely little farms and back to the priory. The hills and slopes in this area are amazing and the views up and down the valley are totally lush.

On Sunday we visited the woods on Mountain near Caerphilly. They remind me of the woods back home. Anyway, they're lovely and the dogs had a great time running through the fallen leaves, leaping over logs, splashing in the stream and eating grass.

We're complicated creatures, aren't we. There are so many fancy bits and pieces that make us work that it often makes me wonder how we ever got made in the first place. If we're 'machines' made by some lofty being, then that's very clever. If not, then that's amazing!
Anway, what I was wondering was whether part of the clever human design was to include a way of suppressing our inquisitiveness. I know people do often ponder life and stuff and that there are some people who are very good at it, but what about all those people who never think about it? How do they not ever think about it when it's the weirdest, odddest, most striking thing about being alive! We all go about our business, being rude to each other, watching TV, eating diet snacks, wearing underwear, singing along to Al Jarreau on the radio....
Perhaps it's better this way: starring wide-eyed at each other in wonderous amazement as we gawp at the world would probably not get us very far.
