I played in an open doubles tennis tournament at Cardiff Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday. It started at 9:30am and finished at 5:00pm (with an hour's break in the middle for lunch) on what turned out to be a glorious, sunny day.
I played like a retard in the morning, unable to control my arms and direct the ball anywhere useful. We won 1 match and lost 2 and ended up in the 3rd league. We all sat down for lunch (chilli, rice and chips) then started playing again, all of us occasionally clutching our chests as our lunches hovered between being digested and undigested. I'd played badly in the morning: the afternoon session was worse. I played like a deformed vole with a gammy left eye and the inability to perceive movement (note that this is a simile used in order to describe how badly I played. I've no idea how a healthy vole would play tennis, let alone one so unfairly challenged, but I imagine it's not goood). We came 11th out of 16.
As a result of playing for 6 hours in the sunshine, I now have a sunburnt face and aching muscles. My shoulder feels dislocated, my forearm shattered, my feet bruised. I've been getting cramps in my thighs too. However, for all my whinging and old-man complaints, I'm really pleased to have got outside and done something energetic. I might to it again sometime.
