Kill Bill Vol.1
I thought I should get my act together and see some films at the cinema. 'Kill Bill' was first on the agenda so I went to the multiplex on the way home from work.
This film is fabulously cool, incredibly enjoyable and horrifically gruesome.
The coolness is typical of Tarantino: stylised; in-jokes; movie nods; soundtrack.... Boy oh boy, is he getting good at this! He is like a film director superhero - he can do anything he wants. Very cool.
The enjoyablity bit depends on whether you like this kind of thing - if you do, then there's lots to be enjoyed. The music, the fight-scenes, the funny bits.... The plot is really simple so it's easy to just focus on enjoying the film. Nice.
The gruesome stuff isn't all the blood - that's just over the top. The fountains of blood spurting from arms and necks and groins is comic book and, although it's pretty nasty, it's actually quite amusing. No, the really gruesome stuff is more subtle and disturbing, which made me totally on Uma's side in her quest for revenge. But it's harsh and I'm glad this is just a made up film.
Anyhoo, I loved this movie and I can't wait till Vol.2.
